The Westchester Black Women’s Political Caucus, Inc./Greenburgh-White Plains Chapter (WBWPC) hosted its 2024 Legacy Awards event on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at The Sailhouse, on 238 Green Street, in Tarrytown, NY. The event honored people and organizations who have continuously and positively empowered residents in Westchester County, NY.

The mission of the Westchester Black Women’s Political Caucus goes beyond the Legacy Awards. The WBWPC was founded in 1976, with the goal of uplifting African Americans, primarily women, in the political sphere in Westchester County. The political action organization has a foothold throughout Westchester, with chapters in Bedford, Greenburgh-White Plains, Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, Peekskill, and Yonkers. 

The 2024 Annual Legacy Awards event highlighted local trailblazers who have made significant contributions in the areas of service and leadership. The Hon. Lisa Marie Nero, Town Clerk for the Town of Greenburgh, and Tasha Young, Adjunct Professor-NYU Silver School of Social Work, served as co-chairs of the celebratory event. Teams of supporters lauded the changemakers in our backyard and spotlighted four awardees for their dedication, hard work, and ability to influence decision-makers:

      • John Tuller, Board Chairperson and President, African American Men of Westchester, Inc. – Carter G. Woodson Award

      • Judith Watson, CEO Westchester Health Network – Elsie Harry Award

      • Paul Hood, President, Westchester Rockland Guardians Association – Reginald A. Lafayette Award

      • Ashley D. Robinson, Alexander Hamilton Jr./Sr. High School Senior – Youth Award

    The awardees expressed heartfelt gratitude through their acceptance speeches. Congratulatory remarks were also received from several elected officials; Andrea Stewart-Cousins/NYS Senate Majority Leader (NYSD35), MaryJane Shimsky/NYS Assemblymember (NYAD92), Jewel Williams-Johnson/Westchester County Legislator (District 8), and William O. Wagstaff, III, Esq. Additional VIPs filled the room, shared thoughtful words, and embraced the networking opportunity.
