Normal People
I can firmly say that the book forever changed me in a way I could not have prepared for. This book is like pickles: you either really love it or really hate it. The characters in this novel no longer seem fictional beyond a certain point, but they seem personnel, raw, and real. Therefore readers get turned off by this notion, however, I think the transparency in the book is even more reason to love it. You both hate and love the characters and find that the reason behind this constant battle of emotions is that you relate to the two main characters Marianne and Connell. Their every thought, action, and emotion embodies what humans feel daily and Rooney depicts this in such a lyrical format through her words that it creates a big impact upon the reader. The possibility of hating this novel is not an option and should be the next book everyone sets out to read.
