About a 3-hour drive from New York, Boston University is an easy ride for a college tour. It is not located in downtown Boston but is situated in along the Charles River neighborhoods of Boston’s Fenway–Kenmore and Allston. There are awesome and relaxing views of the water right at the edge of the main campus.

Boston University is a private university ranked #41 in National Universities by US News. With more than 35,000 students, it offers a large college experience. I was interested in in BU because it is ranked 7th in the best schools for Communications and #1 in Massachusetts. BU has a lot to offer and I am glad I had the opportunity to tour the campus and meet the students and staff.

The campus is easy to access and navigate with buildings are spread across several city blocks, intermixed with shops, restaurants and banks. The main campus stretches 140 acres with more than 300 buildings. It felt like a true college town because of all the students moving about the city streets. The buildings and grounds are immaculate, well maintained and inviting.

Lasting Impressions

My first impression was very positive as I walked past the brown stone apartment building that are campus housing. The tour started with an information session where I learned about the college including the application and admissions process, student demographics, clubs and organizations, work study programs and much more. From there the actual campus tour began with knowledge guides able to answer questions and elaborate on other activities available to the student body.

Then through fate, on the way out of the Admissions Reception Center I ran into Haley, a Television and Film major, and journalism minor. She was very friendly and a great source of information from a student’s perspective. Through all these experiences I realized the faculty and students at Boston University are committed to student’s success.

Boston University offers a great combination of an urban area with enough greenery and water views to make it also feel suburban. It has modern buildings mixed surrounded by an old town feel. How many places can you go that still having a trolly bus driving through the middle of town.
